Amanda Picciano, MSN, APN (FNP-BC), is a member of Summit Health’s Neurology team. She has always been drawn to science and the health field from a young age. She is also passionate about helping others through communication and education. Pursuing a career in health care, specifically in nursing, has allowed her to blend these two passions into one.

Mrs. Picciano's area of expertise is in neurology/neuroscience. She has worked in neurology as an acute care nurse for her entire career in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Her experience has spanned over 8 years in multiple locations including NYC, and NJ. She has also worked in the pediatric emergency room and is trained in pediatric acute & trauma care. Neurology has always interested her as it is not as black and white as other specializations, so it requires more diligence with collecting the correct clues and assessments to complete a clearer picture.

Her approach to patient care has a heavy emphasis in listening, understanding, and educating through empathetic communication and good bedside manner. She strongly believes that people are multi-dimensional and the best patient outcomes are derived from a strong and trusting patient-clinician relationship that focuses on a patient-centered care model. 

“What is most important to me during a visit is that my patients leave feeling like they were truly heard. I want them to feel more comfortable advocating for themselves because of a better understanding of their medical treatment and goals than before our visit,” she says. “I always encourage my patients to ask questions and be an active member of their care.”

Outside of work, Mrs. Picciano enjoys hiking with her dog, spending time with friends and family, interior decorating, gardening, traveling, and reading new literature on neuropsychology. She is especially passionate about advocating for mental health, as well as helping the LGBT and neurodivergent communities. She also enjoys advocating for animal therapy and rehabilitation.
