Krystal Rato, PharmD, is a pharmacist with Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy. Ms. Rato pursued a career in pharmacy because it allows her to oversee medications, provide quality care, offer medication counseling, share her expertise in safe prescription use, conduct health and wellness screenings, and give immunizations.

“Building relationships with patients and making a difference in their overall health” is one of Ms. Rato’s core philosophies. She is also passionate about overall wellness and providing patients with cost-saving alternatives or solutions.

During a visit, Ms. Rato likes to ensure patients are counseled on their medications, so they feel comfortable taking them. She wants patients to be aware of any possible side effects and understand what to do if they miss a dose. Ms. Rato also likes to review immunizations that are recommended for each patient.

Specialty pharmacy is an exciting profession for Ms. Rato because it allows her to spend more time with each patient and have quality interactions with patients due to the complexity of the medication.

Outside of working with patients, Ms. Rato enjoys traveling, fitness, reading, watching baseball, and talking to the community about medication access and health equity.
