Athena Huang, MD, is a member of Summit Health’s Cardiology team. Dr. Huang decided to pursue health care to help people sustain and improve their health through education, shared decision making, and the development of long-term relationships. She is particularly interested in congestive heart failure, women's cardiovascular health, and preventive cardiology. She also achieved advanced training in echocardiography with special focus on structural and valvular heart disease.

Dr. Huang believes that the best approach to patient care is to listen to the patient. She thinks it's crucial to be open-minded and really listen to what patients are saying. This approach leads to more effective discussions about diagnosis and treatment options. 

Dr. Huang says, "The most important aspect of a patient visit to me is that the patient leaves with a better understanding of his/her disease process and feels satisfied that the treatment plan was one based on evidence and shared decision making." She enjoys meeting people in all stages of their lives and making a positive impact on their overall health. 

Dr. Huang is a New Jersey native and attended Brown University, where she graduated magna cum laude. She then attended Columbia University for medical school and achieved Alpha Omega Alpha distinction. She stayed at Columbia University for residency before relocating to Dallas for fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center, during which she served as Chief Cardiology Fellow. She has published multiple research articles and has been invited to present at national conferences.

Outside of her work, Dr. Huang enjoys spending time with her family, going on hikes, exploring restaurants, and traveling. She is passionate about patient advocacy and believes it's important for patients to feel empowered to advocate for themselves and ask questions.
