About Charles Ekstein, MD
Charles Ekstein, MD, is a member of Summit Health’s Orthopedic Surgery and Surgery of the Hand team. Inspired by his parents, who are both physicians, and his love for problem-solving, Dr. Ekstein chose a career in healthcare. Specializing in Orthopedic Hand Surgery allows him to have a direct impact on people's lives both by improving their ability to interact with the world and by relieving their pain.
Dr. Ekstein treats traumatic and degenerative conditions from the shoulder to the fingertips, for pediatric and adult patients alike. He has experience working with a wide range of issues, from newborns with hand deformities to complicated traumatic injuries and chronic pain. He is also skilled in treating seniors with arthritic hand and elbow pain as well as repetitive use injuries such as tennis elbow and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Dr. Ekstein’s guiding light has always been his father's advice to him on the day he graduated medical school. "Remember that this is your job and your everyday, but for the person sitting in front of you, it's the worst day of their life." He carries this perspective into every appointment.
Outside of his work, Dr. Ekstein has a passion for traveling the world with his wife and two children. He loves to explore the outdoors, to ski, and is often found enjoying a good book.
