Charles Kim, MD, is a member of Summit Health’s hematology and oncology team. He is triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology. Dr. Kim received his Bachelor of Science at Brown University, graduating with honors in Neuroscience, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. Inspired by the need for more Medical Oncologists and Hematologists to treat malignancies in the community, Dr. Kim went on to complete his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Downstate following his residency. He focused his interest working with mentors at Downstate and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he researched and worked with world-renown cancer specialists in breast, lymphoma, myeloma, and bone marrow transplant. He has published numerous papers in Oncology and Hematology that are distributed within the medical community.

In his medical practice, Dr. Kim’s philosophy is that a physician and a patient are partners. Patients share their personal and professional priorities while Dr. Kim contributes his medical expertise to personalize the treatment course to that patient’s desired quality of life and medical history. Coming from a family of educators, Dr. Kim wants to make sure patients are informed of the various aspects of their disease and treatment options. “This helps establish an open line of communication so that we can explore different courses of treatment together,” Dr. Kim said. He specializes in many pathologies including solid tumors (e.g., breast, lung, head & neck, gastrointestinal) and hematological diseases (e.g., anemia, thrombocytopenia).

Outside of work, Dr. Kim enjoys spending time with family, playing sports including basketball and golf, hiking, cooking, and trying new foods
